We proudly present an exceptional masterpiece - an original hand-painted Tibetan Thangka painting depicting Amitayus Buddha in the Karma Kadri Style. The Karma Gadri is a style and method used in the Thangka paintings of the Karma Kagyu school, founded by the 8th Karmapa Mikyö Dorje (1507-1554).

A Thangka is a type of scroll painting that originated from the traditional Chinese silk painting method. The 8th Karmapa was once gifted with a painting with a portrait of the Third Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje (1284-1339). During his stay as the Chinese ruler, the Third Karmapa inspired one artist to such an extent that he made a portrait of him.

The first teacher of the Eighth Karmapa was also of Chinese origin, and he represented a very famous painting style called Karma Menhri, from which the Eighth Karmapa later developed the Karma Gadri style.

Amitayus Buddha, also known as Amitabha, holds immense significance in Mahayana Buddhism as a symbol of eternal life. According to the Sukhavati-Vyuha-Sutras, anyone who has faith in him and invokes his name will be granted a place in his paradise, Sukhavati. They will dwell there in contentment until they attain enlightenment. Amitabha is revered as the Buddha of Infinite Light and Infinite Life and is the focal point of several sutras and texts, including the Amitabha Sutra and the Infinite Life Sutra. He is also regarded as a bodhisattva who delayed their enlightenment to help others achieve liberation from suffering.

This Thangka painting is a rare and captivating work of art that showcases the intricate details of Amitayus Buddha's serene and compassionate countenance.
